The Love of Copper
Copper is a unique natural element from the earth. It has many different uses and applications in decor and for just about everything else, including mechanical and electrical purposes.
Copper's natural color is unique, and other natural metals are not as "warm and inviting" as copper.
Natural Gold is a warm color, but something about the reds in copper gives off a warmth that Gold doesn't have in its natural yellow color.
Today, we will look at some of our favorite Copper in Home Decor uses that are unique and not as readily available as a "normal home decor item."
Again, it is one of our favorite metals to work with here at Debora Nash Designs because of its color and friendliness of use.
A Solid Copper Mermaid was created from very fine, ground Copper metal and cast into this gorgeous Mermaid by Debora Nash. She was fired at temperatures below 1700 degrees Fahrenheit in our Debora Nash Designs studio and workshop.
This little lady sings a beautiful "ting" when she is tapped with a metal hammer. She is just beautiful, and holding her in your hands, you really feel the weight of the metal, as she is solid cast Copper. She stands about 6-7 inches tall and is close to 1 1/2 inches thick, so you can imagine the weight.
Another approach we have at Debora Nash Designs for our Copper Designs is using Clear Epoxy with our Copper Metals to create some of the most detailed and intense home decor designs imagined.
Each one can weigh upwards of a pound of Copper Metals. As mentioned before, we love Copper at Debora Nash Designs.
The two samples below were a first-time experiment to see if working with Copper Metal and Clear Epoxy would work, and as you can see, the details are exquisite. What will be done with this in the following rounds will be to use Jet Black in the background and to have the natural copper color of the metals in the front sculptures to give a very 3-dimensional look to the sculptures.
Once finished, these sculptures make for exquisite paperweights, miniature sculptures for decor, or sculptures in a “Garden Scene Display” for a fireplace during the hot summer when the fireplace is not used.
